Hubert Naimer, Universal Avionics CEO, Was a Pioneer and Visionary
Universal Avionics President and CEO Hubert L. Naimer, founder and president of Universal Avionics, passed away on Sept. 12 at the age of 82. Known for his innovative ideas for modernization of cockpit flight instrumentation, Naimer founded Universal Avionics Systems Corp. in 1981.
A successful entrepreneur, businessman and experienced pilot who spent more than 40 years in the cockpit of high performance aircraft operating worldwide, Namier was known for his passion for aviation, pioneering spirit, genius and inexhaustible drive, which led to many inventions and innovative ideas, such as the UNS-1 Flight Management System first introduced in 1982. Since then, over 15,000 FMSes have been shipped.
As early as 1976, Namier had a vision of a master navigation system that would compute the input of a variety of sensors on an aircraft and provide guidance throughout all phases of flight. The first flight management system (FMS) was introduced in 1982 to the corporate aircraft market.
Until his passing, Mr. Naimer maintained leadership control and continued to work hand in hand with engineers on new product concepts and designs. His son, J. L. "Ted" Naimer, who has been actively involved in the business for over 30 years, will assume the position of President of Universal Avionics Systems Corp.
