Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Good Shape, Says Hancock
During the five years since it was formed by an internal reorganization, Lockheed Martin's Aeronautics Division has shown compound growth of 25% per annum, reported its president, Dain M. Hancock, at the show yesterday. LM Aero is designing and developing new aircraft at its renowned "Skunk Works"; fielding and manufacturing a broad range of current fighters and transports; and providing in-service support to keep older types flying. These include:
- F/A-22 Raptor: Total of 83 aircraft in firm contract,
of which 33 are delivered. Operational test and evaluation with
the USAF at Edwards AFB ends in September.
- F-35 JSF: Component assembly for the first production
aircraft is under way for first flight in 2006.
- F-16 Fighting Falcon: Backlog of 251, ensuring work into
2008. Possible further 200 required by several customers.
- C-130J Hercules: Now returning profits to the company
for the first time in its "J" guise. Fiftieth anniversary of YC-130
first flight will be celebrated on Aug. 23.
- C-5 Galaxy: Engine and avionics updates under way. Cleared
for further 25 years of USAF service, promising more support work
to come.
