Typhoon Is Go for Farnborough

The brief swirl of questions that blew up around Eurofighter's presence here at Farnborough has subsided with the confirmation that Typhoons will fly at the show throughout the week and over the public weekend. Eurofighter had been keen to show off an in-service RAF aircraft, flown by an RAF pilot, to underline the fact that the jets are now in squadron service with all four partner air forces. Up until the eve of the show, however, the RAF was reportedly unable—or unwilling—to support a Eurofighter presence during the trade days at Farnborough. Reliable service sources said that it was proving impossible to agree to terms under which the RAF aircraft would step out of their work-up operations at Warton. The situation was compounded by the fact that three aircraft are unavailable, as they have been committed to the Singapore evaluation deployment. Over the weekend RAF sources were still maintaining that no Typhoons would be available for Farnborough until the public weekend.

Not so, says Eurofighter. Any uncertainty about the situation should be swept aside by Monday afternoon's flying display validation by an RAF Typhoon T.Mk 2 paving the way for a daily visit by one of the Warton-based jets. Aircraft will fly at Farnborough as part of the ongoing operational evaluation schedule, and on the weekend, three squadron aircraft will be at the show to boost public exposure to the RAF's highest-profile asset.
