U.S.-Israeli Team Offers G550-Based AEW to South Korea

An international team comprising General Dynamics' Gulfstream Aerospace, Israel Aircraft Industries' Elta Systems Ltd and L-3 Communications is competing for the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) Airborne Early Warning (AEW) System E-X Program. The team is proposing the Gulfstream 550 platform that has been selected by the Israel Air Force for its SIGINT and AEW missions.

Initial airframes have already been produced and are currently undergoing modification. IAI/Elta will provide the phased-array radar, ESM equipment and the mission system. Elta's AEW radars are already operational in Chile and were recently selected by India and Israel for future AEW programs. L-3 will supply the communications suite, including datalinks and the main ground segments, providing complete interoperability between ROKAF and U.S. military aircraft deployed in the country. The team will submit a combined offer and has allocated significant opportunities for potential South Korean partners to participate in modification, installation of equipment, and maintenance of the aircraft's systems.
