Israel Aircraft Industries' (IAI) LAHAV division (Hall 3, Stand E9) has developed a new Tactical Mid-Air Collision Avoidance (TMACA) system expected to improve helicopter flight safety in training and operational deployments. Helicopters equipped with TMACA are netted to each other in a "system envelope" arrangement that monitors all helicopters in an area, following formation flight, maneuvering, hovering, takeoff and landing approaches. The network monitors all positions for unexpected traffic with a 15-second or less impact flight path, a 40-meter or less gap between helicopters or a hover landing collision situation. The network uses GPS, datalink and radio altimeter data from the different helicopters to calculate collision conditions.
