Smiths + TeraView = New Security Technology
Smiths Detection has teamed up with TeraView, a technology and product development company, to work on the next-generation hand-held security wand. The unit will use terahertz light waves to detect and identify metallic and non-metallic weapons. Terahertz light is between microwave and infrared in the electromagnetic spectrum and can pass through clothing, paper and plastics. Smiths will use it to detect weapons made of various materials including metal, ceramic or plastic, with materials being identified by their spectral "fingerprints."
