Swiss Give Nod to Helo Self-Protection Kit
Swiss air force Eurocopter Cougar transport helicopters are now operation with a new self-protection suite to protect against heat-seeking missiles. The Integrated Self-protection System (Issys) underwent flight trials on four Cougars. Final design review has been completed for the series production of the helicopter upgrade—Switzerland is buying 12 of the rotorcraft. RUAG Aerospace and Avitronics are supplying the defensive package. Issys contains a missile warning subsystem with ultraviolet sensors, and a countermeasures dispensing system with chaff and flare capability.
