EPGWS Cited for 30 'Saves' with 30,000 Systems Delivered

Honeywell has delivered more than 30,000 Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Systems (EGPWS) and has recorded more than 30 incidents in which alerts may have averted a controlled-flight-into-terrain accident. Frank Daly, the president of Honeywell Air Transport Systems, says there probably have been other incidents the company doesn't know about. In Western Europe and North America, he said, the risk of CFIT is 50 times lower than it was in the early 1990s. Honeywell has logged fleet orders covering more than 150 aircraft this year including contracts from Mesa Airlines, US Airways Express, Egyptair, Avianca and JAT.
