Protectionism by Any Other Name Would Smell as Bad
"One thing I would like to see when it comes to doing transatlantic business," says MBDA Missile Systems CEO Marwan Lahoud, "is a move from protectionism to real technology transferon both sides. I'd also like to see companies assessed by where they base their employees and where they generate technology, rather than their shareholding. This behavior has developed well on this side of the Atlanticpioneered in the UK, where much more importance has been placed on where a company actually pays its wages. We are far from achieving this [universally]. In the U.S. issues of 'technological transfer' are still being used as a tool for protectionism, the ownership of a company is of greatest importance when assessing its 'nationality'and the situation is worsening." MBDA is in Chalet K4-5 and OE11.
