For the Record, They're in for the Long Haul

For the second time this year a Singapore Airlines Airbus A340-500 has flown into the record books by achieving the longest ever non-stop commercial flight—breaking another A340 distance record set just months earlier. The latest record was established on SIA's inaugural Singapore-New York (Newark) service on June 28-29, with the 16,660 km (9,000 nmi) sector completed in an epic 18 hours,18 minutes. The previous record had been set by A340-500 flying Singapore-Los Angeles in February. That flight was 'only' 14,093 km (7,609 nmi) and 14 hours, 42 minutes long.
