Emirates Buys a Few Toys

In a move to meet the demands of its growing fleet, Emirates HH Sheik Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum signed with the Civil Simulation & Training Group President of CAE, Jeff Roberts, a contract for three full-flight simulators at the CAE Chalet here at the show. The three simulators, valued at a list price of $50 million, are to accommodate for the two A380-800s and one A340-600 that will be joining the Emirates fleet. The Emirates Aviation College will be receiving the three simulators in mid-2006 in preparation for the new Airbus aircraft, of which the first of 45 A380s is due for delivery in October 2006. The first of the 20 A340-600HGWs are scheduled for delivery in June 2007. Also in attendance at the signing were President of Air Astana (the flag carrier of Kazakhstan,) Lloyd Paxton, and VP Operations, Capt. Ousama Balaa from the Lebanese national carrier Middle East Airlines. After a year of training their next-generation Boeing 737 crews at the Emirates CAE Flight Training (ECFT) center in Dubai, Air Astana renewed its commitment to that training arrangement. Middle East Air is under a long-term agreement to train its A330 crews at ECFT, and will now be doing the same with its A320 crews.
