FiatAvio New Co-Owner, The Carlyle Group, Has More than $15B Under Management

The Carlyle Group, new co-owner of Italian engine manufacturer FiatAvio, is a secretive global private equity firm with more than $15.8 billion under management. Its associates number many world leaders including former U.S. President George Bush and former British Prime Minister John Major.

Carlyle claims to generate extraordinary returns for its investors by employing a conservative, proven, and disciplined approach. It invests in buyouts, real estate, high yield, venture capital, and turnaround in North America, Europe, and Asia, focusing on aerospace and defense, automotive, consumer and industrial, energy and power, healthcare, technology and business services, telecommunications, media and transportation.

Among its high-powered associates are:

  • Former U.S. Secretary of State James A. Baker III;
  • Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Frank C. Carlucci;
  • Former Director of the Office of Management and Budget Richard G. Darman;
  • Former Chairman of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission William E. Kennard;
  • Former Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Arthur Levitt; and
  • Former President of the Philippines Fidel Ramos.
