Kuwait Upgrades its GE Engines

Kuwait Airways has signed an $11 million agreement with General Electric for Performance Improvement Program (PIP) upgrades of the GE90-94Bs on its fleet of Boeing 777s. PIP boosts the GE90-94B's thrust from the standard 85,000- 90,000 pounds thrust to 94,000 pounds thrust, improve exhaust gas temperature margin by over 20ºC and improves fuel burn by 1.6%.

"With the installation of the GE90 PIP kits, Kuwait Airways will be able to operate nonstop Boeing 777 service from Kuwait City to New York," commented Muhammad Al-Lamadani, GE's general manager for Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Central Asia.

Six other GE90-90B customers have ordered a total of 106 PIP upgrades, valued at nearly $200 million.
