Thales Lands First Major Export
Order for Starstreak
The Republic of South Africa will be the first major buyer of
Thales Air Defence's Starstreak short-range, laser beam-riding,
anti-aircraft missile system. The multi-million euro deal will
provide South African troops in the field with a hand-portable
air defense system that can be supplied by airdrop. The Page radar
target tracking system, also supplied by Thales, will support
Starstreak Multiple Launchers. Millar Crawford, the Belfast firm's
CEO, was elated with the announcement, saying that the short range
air defense missile market is "extremely competitive"
and that the purchase confirms Thales' confidence in the long-term
prospects for the success of the program.
