EMIT Launches Sparrow 100+ Production Program For An Asian Client

EMIT has unveiled the Sparrow, a new 'sub-tactical' low-altitude observation and surveillance UAV, capable of deployment from land or sea. Launched by bungee or pneumatic launcher, the 40 kg, 2.14 meter-long Sparrow can carry a payload of 12 kg on a six-hour mission. It is automatically retrieved over a designated point, with a parachute and integral airbags. The aircraft is sealed and designed to withstand operations at sea, including water landing. Sparrow will use a new Microview four-axis stabilized FLIR and TV system, currently under development. EMIT is now gearing to start production of over 100 vehicles to meet an initial order from an Asian navy. These systems are also proposed for the U.S. Army Future Combat System program as part of cooperation with EDO Corp.
