Elbit's Lizard family of 'strap-on' weapons guidance kits are
offered for blast-fragmentation as well as hard-target penetration
warheads on Mk 82/83/84 bombs. Elbit's range includes the autonomous
infrared guidance kit, which uses an IR sensor to home-in on moving
targets, to an accuracy of 120 cm. The laser guidance kits include
Lizard II and the advanced Lizard III which use high-precision
laser-homing sensors to guide and impact on a target with an accuracy
of 120-210 cm. Lizard III can also maintain high accuracy when
engaging moving targets at high speed.
Lizard 4 is the new version that uses the GPS-aided Lizard (GAL),
in addition to t laser homing. This added capability enables the
Lizard to hit targets located below the cloudbase, by use of cooperative
engagement tactics. The GAL weapon offers many benefits, including
glide trajectory that facilitates a safe standoff distance from
the target. It can be carried by all types of aircraft, including
those which are not fitted with Mil-1760 and 1553 databuses.
