Hand-in-hand with JetBlue's ground-breaking order for 100 Embraer
190 regional jets comes confirmation that the New York-based low-cost
carrier has inked a $600 million deal for the aircraft's General
Electric CF34-10 engines. JetBlue will take delivery of its new
190s from 2005 to 2011 and holds a further 100 options for the
type. The CF34-10E is the dedicated powerplant for the Embraer
190 and is currently undergoing flight testing on GE's Boeing
747 testbed. Embraer 190 flight tests will begin in early 2004.
The 100-seat 190 is part of Embraer's new larger RJ family, that
began when the 70-seat Embraer 170 was launched in 1999.
