Rolls-Royce Sells $900 Million's Worth of Trent 500s to Emirates

Rolls-Royce announced here yesterday $900 million order from Dubai-based carrier Emirates for Trent 500 engines to power its newly ordered Airbus A340-500s and 600s.

Deliveries of the A340-500s will begin at the end of 2004, and the first of the A340-600s arrive in late 2007, with deliveries continuing through 2009. Emirates opted for the high-gross-weight version of the A340 series, which is powered solely by Trent 500.

"Today's announcement is part of a significant fleet expansion which extends our joint interests with Emirates through the Trent engine family. "said Mike Terrett, R-R's president of civil aerospace. "Emirates has selected three members of the Trent series and we are delighted to be sharing in these latest development through this new version of the A340."

In addition to the new order for the A340-500s and 600s, Emirates already operates Trent-powered Airbus A330s and Boeing 777s.
