Honeywell/Thales' next generation MCS-7000 seven-channel SATCOM
system will be fitted to the Airbus A380 double-deck superjumbo,
according to Abbas Hosain, Honeywell's VP air transport sales
and marketing. MCS-7000 is already in service aboard several business
aircraft, so it's a low-risk venture to put it on the A380. It
will provide crew and passengers with Inmarsat services for both
voice and 56-128 kb data communications. The system can be upgraded
for future satcom constellations, as well. Cockpit control will
be provided through the A380's radio- and audio-integrating management
panel. MCS-7000 will support satellite-based Airbus Flight Information
System functions.
