The venerable Boeing 707-300, some 100 of which are still in use
with air freight carriers and military organizations, soon will
be able to fly through Reduced Vertical Separation Minima airspace
with a Honeywell RVSM package, according to Vijay Bali, the firm's
Boeing 707 program manager. Honeywell has received an FAA Supplemental
Type Certificate for installation of a new digital flight guidance
system and dual digital air data computers. Not only does the
gear provide more precise altitude guidance, it also weighs less
than the old analog systems and should be considerably more reliable.
The package includes complete engineering drawings and instructions
for installation.
