New Helmet Mounted Display Technology Developed by Rafael

Israel's Rafael is demonstrating the EyeBall, a new helmet-mounted sight developed at its missile division's air/air directorate. The new helmet display could be integrated into fighter aircraft and helicopters, as it sized and shaped exactly as the standard-issue helmet. A version of the sight is also being considered for air defense applications. According to company sources, the new helmet will add only 300 grams to the weight of helmets. It uses innovative line-of-sight measurement, based on a lightweight, miniature inertial measurement system (INS), optical sensor and real-time image-processing, that can reference the pilot head's position and line of sight to fixed cockpit elements. The helmet is claimed to offer unique operational advantages when integrated with other Rafael products such as the Python 5 missile.
