Yemeni Airways Modernizes Fleet, Eyes More A330s and Route Expansion
Yemeni Airways signed an agreement Monday with International Lease
Finance Corporation (ILFC) to replace A310s with two A330-200s.
The deal marks the start of a five-year modernization plan for
the airline. Yemeni Airways chairman Captain Al-Kadi said the
two aircraft are slated to be delivered next year, starting October.
Al-Kadi added that in 2005 the airline hopes to add two more A330s
to its fleet, with another two of the widebodies following in
2006.
The A330-200s ordered at Le Bourget will be used on routes from
Yemen to Europe-where it serves Paris, London, Frankfurt and Rome-and
the Far East, where it flies to Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta. Yemeni
Airways also plans route expansions with Marseille top on the
list. Other sites being considered for service are Bangkok and
Hong Kong, although the company is still in the evaluation process
for those, Al-Kadi noted.
