Landing gear specialist Messier-Dowty has pulled out all the
stops at their Hall 2B, Stand E11 display. Dominating the display
is the monolithic, 5.5-meter-tall Airbus A380 nose-gear, for which
the company is responsible for design, development, manufacture,
test and support. Pared with the main gear unveiled at last years
Farnborough Air Show, it becomes apparent how truly massive the
A380 will be. Its landing gear will be the largest ever supplied
by Messier-Dowty.
Showing the research and technology aspect its work, the company
showing in a titanium main gear fitting for the Airbus A340, highlighting
work done on weight reduction and new coatings that comply with
present and future environmental safeguards. The landing gear
incorporates a shortening mechanism and articulating bogie to
meet Airbus' weight and installation requirements.
Representing Messier-Dowty's military work, a Dassault Rafale
B main landing gear, F/A-18E/F nose gear, and Eurofighter Typhoon
main gear can be seen on the stand.
