The Embraer 175 made its first flight from the Brazilian airframer's
Sao José dos Campos facility on Saturday June 14. Serial
number 0014 took off at 1150 local for the 120-minute flight,
accompanied by its sibling, the Embraer 170. The Embraer 175,
which is 70 inches longer than the 170, seats 78 to 86 passengers
and offers 10% more cargo/seat space than its stablemate. Range
will be 1,800 nmi.
"It is another important milestone in our main objective
to develop and produce a whole new generation of jetliners for
the 70- to 100-seat segment, offering an unparalleled combination
of performance, operating economics and passenger comfort, able
to meet and exceed the new and challenging requirements of the
air transport industry," said Embraer president and CEO Maurício
Botelho.
Meanwhile, the Embraer 170, which is making its Paris Air Show
debut here, has completed over 90% of its certification program.
The 175 will be certificated in third quarter 2004.
Embraer has booked 234 firm and 289 options for the 170/190 family.
