Saab Aircraft says operator Swiss will no longer be able to fly
its Saab 2000 aircraft into Lugano Agno airport after new rules
by the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Aviation take effect. The
rules define an approach with 6-degree glideslope and will require
Swiss to obtain a supplemental approval/certification for the aircraft,
according to the manufacturer. Saab and Swiss had earlier suggested
a 5.5-degree slope approach that would have accommodated the Saab
2000, though the authorities ultimately selected the higher angle.
"Whether a recertification of the aircraft will occur or not
at this point becomes a commercial decision to be taken in consideration
with our customers," says Saab.
