Horizon Air Gets Cat III Approaches

Horizon Air has been approved by the FAA to fly single-engine Category III approaches in the Bombardier Q400, using Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics' HGS-4200 head-up display system. This gives Horizon's pilots a wider choice of alternates when weather across the system is bad, because a Cat III runway can now be a legal alternate in conditions down to 200-foot ceiling and 1,800-foot visual range. Flight Dynamics HUDs are offered on other regional jets and on all Dassault's wide-cabin business jets.
