MidContinent Instruments is ready to deliver its new Lifesaver
Gyro electric attitude indicator, which the company says is the
first such instrument with a self-contained battery backup. The
Lifesaver gyro will provide up to one hour of emergency attitude
reference even if every other system on the airplane fails. MidContinent
also says that the Lifesaver Gyro is designed to last three times
longer than its nearest competitor, it costs two-thirds as much,
and installs with one standard connector. The Lifesaver Gyro has
been tested for the past year in an Extra 300 aerobatic airplane
flown by Ian Groom, withstanding loads up to 10g and a world-record
57 snap rolls in 26 seconds.
