The NBAA will present the American Spirit Award to the association's
president emeritus John W. Olcott (and former publisher of B/CA)
during the NBAA President's Luncheon on Tuesday Oct. 7 at this year's
Convention. The NBAA explains that the award "recognizes individuals
within business aviation who exemplify the courage, pursuit of excellence
and service to others that characterize the men and women who created
and nurtured the American aviation community." Olcott was president
of the NBAA from May 1992 to June 2003 and led many efforts to expand
worldwide acceptance of general aviation, including the creation
of the NBAA's premier European and Latin American aviation trade
shows, EBACE and LABACE. His many accomplishments as a proponent
of general aviation, too numerous to list here, are at the heart
of his selection to win this award.
