The Word from Vref

Just how bad is it for sellers? It's very bad indeed, indicates the current issue of the Market Leader newsletter from Fletcher Aldredge of Kansas' Vref Publishing. Aldredge focuses on today's aircraft values as compared with original selling prices and finds that many values have plummeted. A typical Gulfstream IV, for example, is worth just 77% of its original selling price, and a GIII a dismal 45%. A Hawker 800 is worth 63% of its original selling price, and a Falcon 20F, Sabre 65, or Westwind II a grim 37%.

The bright spot is in cheaper airplanes, specifically piston singles-perhaps because many weren't manufactured for years. Almost all of the aircraft in the category are worth more than they were new, with a Cherokee Six fetching a sweet 165% of its original tab.
