Program to Use Recycled Glycol Now in
Place at Seven U.S. Airports
In an innovative program to offer recycled glycol for de icing
of business and commercial aircraft, BBA subsidiary ASIG has teamed
with Edgewater Systems to offer the service at seven airports
in the U.S.
ASIG will manage and operate Edgewater Systems' AR Plus branded
collection and processing systems to recover and recycle spent
aircraft deicing fluid at Minneapolis-St. Paul International (MSP),
Chicago O'Hare International (ORD) and Chicago Midway (MDW) Airports-facilities
where Edgewater Systems has been contracted to provide an alternative
solution to current aircraft deicing fluid collection and processing
techniques.
This teaming approach is also taking place at Connecticut's Bradley
International Airport (BDL) and Theodore Francis Green State Airport
(PVD) in Providence, RI, whereby Edgewater holds the existing
glycol recycling contract. ASIG currently offers aircraft deicing
services at over 20 airports nationwide.
Aircraft deicing fluid is composed primarily of glycol, and is
used at over 400 airports in the U.S. After deicing aircraft,
the spent solution finds its way into local storm water systems
where it can do environmental damage. Most airports pay fees to
their local publicly owned treatment works to process spent glycol
fluid.
Edgewater Systems' AR Plus product allows for processing of collected
storm water on the airport. Their technology utilizes membrane
filtration and reverse osmosis to recover, clean and re-concentrate
glycol for resale; and AR Plus recycled glycol is the only type
of recycled glycol authorized by the Society of Automotive Engineers
(SAE) for reapplication as aircraft deicing fluid.
