Rolls-Royce has confirmed an order for 300 Tay 611-8C engines,
plus 300 on option, for the Gulfstream G450 long-range business
jet that was launched at NBAA. The engine maker developed the
new Tay 611-8C specifically for the G450. It features FADEC, and
technology upgrades in the high-pressure turbine and bypass/core
mixer that result in better operating efficiency and reduced fuel
burn. The 611-8C is manufactured by Rolls-Royce at its Dahlewitz,
Germany plant, alongside the BR700 family that powers the Gulfstream
G500 and G550.
"The Rolls-Royce performance on the Tay 611-8C has been outstanding,"
said Gulfstream vp of Programs, Engineering and Test, Pres Henne.
"Program schedules have been met and initial flight test
experience with the new engines has been very positive."
This latest contract, which covers a 10-year period, continues
a highly successful 45-year relationship between engine manufacturer
and airframer. Rolls-Royce has been the only powerplant provider
for Gulfstreams since the Dart turboprop-powered GI was launched
in 1958, and has since delivered more than 2,500 engines for Gulfstreams.
