Extra Expands: Turboprop 500's NBAA Debut; More U.S. Dealerships and Support

Financial restructuring now put behind it, the Extra company is here with the prototype of its Rolls-Royce 250-engined Extra 500, flown 5,500 trouble-free miles from Germany to Orlando Executive Airport in nine stages by re-designated chief designer Walter Extra himself. An extrapolation of the six-seat, piston-powered Model 400 that is already established in the U.S., the 500 anticipates European certification in the first quarter of next year, with FAA acceptance and deliveries following shortly after. Kenneth Keith, CEO of Extra Aircraft LLC in the U.S., says dealerships and spares support for all Extra products will be expanded in anticipation of increasing sales, this also embracing the popular Model 300 aerobatic airplane, which is also back in production. Within a year, Extra anticipates delivering three 300s and one 400 or 500 per month.
