Challenger 300 Simulator Is FAA-Certified; Real Thing
On Line in Three Months
FAA Level C certification has been achieved by the first Bombardier
Challenger 300 flight simulator three months before the super-midsize
business jet enters service. The approval was granted by FAA officials
following a final inspection of the unit at Bombardier Aerospace's
training center at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Transport
Canada Level C certification is anticipated imminently, while
the European JAA equivalent is due to come early next year. Upgrading
to Level D certification by the U.S. authorities is also slated
for 2004, but the first pilots will begin training next month.
Maintenance courses have already started. Manufactured by NLX
Corporation in Sterling, Va., and with an Evans and Sutherland
visual system, the Challenger 300 simulator features a full complement
of actual avionics from the aircraft to ensure total fidelity.
