Lufthansa Completes VIP Jumbo
Even on the largest completions projects, Lufthansa Technik understands
that space is always an important consideration.
Earlier this year, the company's Hamburg Completions center finished
work on one of its most massive-effort projects to date-the outfitting
of a VIP-configured Boeing 747-400, a first for the German company.
The work lasted nearly 18 months and was performed for an unnamed
customer in the Middle East.
Among the many unique installations was a feature available on smaller aircraft
such as the Boeing Business Jet and BBJ2-a custom sound system,
offering six-channel surround sound.
Lufthansa Technik engineers collaborated with ELAC Loudspeakers
to develop speakers that were discreet and unobtrusive. The new
speakers are built right into standard wall and ceiling panels in
the cabin. The company says flat-panel screens and wall pictures
can also be used as speakers.
According to Lufthansa Technik, the system, developed at "minimum
expense," will help the jumbo jet become a "flying concert
hall."
Further information about Lufthansa Technik is available on the
convention floor at Booth 2341.
