Upgrades Coming for Premier I
Beechcraft is preparing Premier I modifications that will provide
RVSM certification, improve the aircraft's range and takeoff performance,
and reduce cabin noise levels.
In order to meet the RVSM requirements, Raytheon engineers moved
the pitot tubes aft of the radome. Once FAA approval is received,
all future Premier I's will be made RVSM-ready at the factory.
FAA certification is expected by mid-December.
Premier I performance will be improved through a reduction in
the stall speed and the addition of usable fuel. The stall speed
recertification will result in a 100- to 300-foot reduction in
takeoff field length. Reducing the unusable fuel by some 67 pounds
-- made possible though a wing modification and relocating the
fuel pickup -- will add about 30 nmi to the Premier's range.
Those slightly longer flights should be more comfortable with
a new 30-pound sound package that is expected to reduce noise
levels anywhere from three to five dBA.
"For any of the aircraft that have already been delivered
we will provide modification kits at no charge for installation
at Raytheon service centers," said Raytheon customer support
vp Ed Dolanski.
