Cessna Introduces the Citation CJ3, Price Is $5.8
Million
Cessna will launch a new member of the Citation family this week:
the Citation CJ3. The CJ3 incorporates the successful features of
the CJ2 while providing a longer cabin and tailcone; new Williams
International FJ44-3A engines; and advanced Collins avionics.
"As our first aircraft
of the new millennium, we are confident that the CJ3 will meet the
market's demand and repeat the unprecedented success of the CitationJet,
CJ1 and CJ2," says Roger Whyte, senior vp marketing. "By
keeping the best-selling features of the CitationJet series and
adding more comfort, speed and range, the CJ3 will be economical
to purchase and efficient to operate."
The dual-channel FADEC controlled FJ44-3A engines provide 2,780
pounds of thrust, which is 14% more takeoff thrust and 12% more
cruise thrust than the FJ44-2C, the Williams International engine
used in the CJ2. The engines utilize next-generation component aerodynamics,
and a new compound sweep, wide-chord fan that contributes to the
increased thrust output while maintaining fuel efficiency.
Designed for single pilot operation, the maximum cruise speed
is 417 knots at 33,000 feet. With two pilots, full fuel, four passengers
and baggage, the CJ3 offers an IFR range of 1,664 nmi and a VFR
range of 1,900 nmi. Service ceiling is 45,000 feet and the maximum
gross takeoff weight is 13,870 pounds. Time to climb directly to
45,000 feet at maximum gross takeoff weight is 35 minutes.
The Collins Pro Line 21 avionics system encompasses the same features
as on the CJ2, with some new ones. In order to meet RVSM requirements,
Cessna has included the copilot's primary flight display with second
air data computer as standard equipment. The primary flight displays
and enhanced multi-function display are presented on three 8-by-10-inch
active matrix color liquid crystal displays.
Other integrated avionics features include a file server system
with cursor control panel and enhanced map overlays, Pro Line 21
CNS radios, and Collins FMS-3000. Optional equipment includes FMS
performance database, electronic charts, and graphical weather providing
operators with increased situational awareness.
Passengers of the CJ3 will have additional comfort due to the
24-inch length increase in the passenger cabin over the CJ2. Standard
is a six-seat, center-club configuration. Other new interior features
include: a one-piece headliner, which eases maintenance; LED indirect
cabin lighting and dropped aisle lights; and a standard forward
refreshment center with a 10-inch-wider work surface than the CJ2.
The CJ3 will be delivered with a comprehensive standard warranty:
five years or 5,000 hours on the airframe and Collins Pro Line 21
avionics; three years or 1,500 hours on the Williams International
engines; and one year for paint, interior and vendor items.
The CJ3 is priced at $5,795,000 in 2002 dollars. The first flight
of the prototype is anticipated in the second quarter of 2003, with
type certification in the second quarter of 2004. First customer
deliveries are expected in third quarter 2004.
