Lumiflon Protects Exterior Paint Investment
AGA Chemicals (Booth 2671) is introducing its Lumiflon fluoropolymer
paint additive to the U.S. market following a successful seven-year
test with All Nippon Airways. The additive proved its value in
extending paint life in all weather and sunlight UV conditions,
AGA officials say.
With repainting now costing $35,000 to $75,000 for a typical business jet,
Lumiflon can reduce overall operating expense and downtime considerably,
according to the company. The product was developed in 1982 by Japan's
Asahi Glass, whose engineers perfected the first solvent-soluble,
fluoropolymeric paint additive compound. During the next two decades,
Lumiflon-treated paint has been used on more than 150,000 structures,
including ANA jetliners. Now AGA is working with Deft, Dexter and
U.S. Paints, among other aircraft paint suppliers, to develop coatings
with Lumiflon.
Lumiflon is a mixture of fluoroethylene and vinyl compounds that
provides transparency, toughness, and weather resistance along with
adhesion, rapid curing and pigment compatibility.
