Rockwell Collins Gets into Bombardier Global
5000 Cabin
Bombardier Aerospace and Rockwell Collins have agreed to develop
an integrated cabin electronics solution for the Global 5000 intercontinental
business jet, it has been announced here at the convention.
Collins' new Airshow 21 cabin electronics system offers the Global
5000 an advanced systems architecture that can support a complete
line of cabin electronics centered on an operator's specific requirements.
The system features a redundant communications backbone, maximizing
system availability while providing digital distribution of information
and allowing easy installation of future upgrades.
Airshow 21 allows Global 5000 passengers and crew to control nearly
all aspects of the cabin environment. Advanced functionality includes
the latest in real-time business connectivity, information, entertainment
and cabin management capabilities. It offers passengers a complete
"global office," giving the same capabilities in the
air as on the ground.
The system's Ethernet-based local area network (LAN) provides
multiple users with "off-board" data connectivity, as
well as access to printers, fax machines and shared files. The
system can be enhanced through the addition of wireless LAN, permitting
users to maintain network connectivity while moving about the
cabin.
When including the Collins SAT-906, secure voice communications
are available anywhere in the world. By adding the Collins HST-900
high-speed transceiver, passengers can also access the Internet
and corporate e-mail accounts.
