Transportation Ministers Hold Summit Here

A summit meeting of all Latin American Ministers of Transport will be held here today (Tuesday) to address issues that hamper development of air transportation in the region.

The meeting is in addition to the IATA "Wings of Change" conference that also begins here at FIDAE today. Many of the ministers are expected to visit the IATA conference as well as FIDAE 2002.

Issues include costs of government services such as navigation and ground handling; high rates of business taxation compared with Europe and the U.S.; and cross-border ownership and cooperation. The first summit meeting in this series was held in Bogota in December.
