Alenia's C-27J Misses FIDAE 2002 in Pursuit of Sales

The C-27J tactical transport is based ont the well-proven G222.

With great reluctance Alenia Aeronautica decided to withdraw the 'Half a Herc' C-27J from FIDAE, even though the aircraft is competing for an order from Brazil. "A potential customer asked us for demonstration flights, so we had to make the aircraft available," a spokeswoman told Show News. "We are very sorry we could not bring it here."

This would have been the C-27J's first public appearance in South America.

Developed by Alenia Aeronautica and Lockheed Martin, the C-27J combines the well-known reliability of the G222 with the modern avionics and the engines of the C-130J. Italy has ordered 12 aircraft, and it recently won its first export order for 12 plus three options from the Greek Air Force.
