ACSS Continues to Build Momentum
ACSS (Aviation Communication & Surveillance Systems), an
L-3 Communications & Thales Company, comes to FIDAE 2002 (U.S.
International Pavilion, Hall G, Stand E5) after a string of recent
successes.
Northwest Airlines has selected the ACSS T2CAS traffic and
terrain avoidance system for their A330s with options for the
rest of their fleet.
T2CAS is a unique safety avionics product that combines aircraft
performance-based TAWS (Terrain Awareness Warning System) with
the
industry's leading traffic alert and collision warning system,
the TCAS 2000.
"We're thrilled that Northwest Airlines has selected T2CAS,"
said Joe Hoffman, president of ACSS. "Our relationship with
Northwest Airlines dates back to 1992 when they became a launch
customer for our first-generation TCAS II. Northwest Airlines
has now selected a safety avionics solution that not only delivers
the industry's best TCAS, but also raises the bar for TAWS technology."
Unlike other TAWS products, T2CAS is a true terrain avoidance
product that bases its operator alerts on an aircraft's actual
ability to climb at a given moment - not based on predetermined
computations. T2CAS also reduces weight, power consumption, space
requirements, and wiring because it's a combined TCAS and TAWS
solution. Northwest's fleet is already equipped with TCAS 2000,
so they will be able to simply swap out the TCAS box for the new
T2CAS box using the existing power supply and wiring.
The TCAS 2000 became the industries' first second-generation
TCAS II product when it was launched in 1997. Since then, ACSS
has delivered more than 5,000 units, making it best selling second-generation
TCAS II in the industry. The TCAS 2000 has earned acclaim throughout
aviation for its ability to track aircraft beyond 100 nautical
miles and its built-in growth capability for enhancements such
as TAWS and Automatic Dependence Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B).
ACSS announced the development of T2CAS at last year's Paris
Air Show. Certification is anticipated by year-end.
