Virtual Mako Seeks a Launch Reality
Mako's developmental front cockpit allows pilots to "fly" the aircraft in different scenarios while portraying an accurate, real-time presentation of the flight and weapons systems at all times during a simulated mission. Head-up displays are projected on a screen in front.

The proposed Mako light combat and lead-in trainer aircraft will feature a virtual reality cockpit that will allow it--while in flight--to simulate various mission profiles as well as the characteristics of different aircraft, according to EADS, which is promoting the Mako here at FIDAE 2002. The aircraft and its systems are being defined by EADS-Germany and the United Arab Emirates air force in hopes of winning the launch order needed for the Mako to become reality within the next few years.

The developmental read cockpit features a helmet-mounted "surround sound and vision" display that EADS claims is almost the equivalent of being in a "dome" simulator.
