Israel Sharpens Claws of Dogfighting Tiger

Chile's moderinized F-5s are still a potent defense system.

While Chile's F-16s will introduce a new capability in the region, the effectiveness of a combat aircraft is measured as the combination of platform, weapons and systems.

Recent air combat training in Chile and the United States showed that Chile's modernized F-5 Tiger IIIs, equipped with the latest systems and weapons including the Elta EL/M-2032 radar, helmet-mounted sight, and Rafael Python 4 missiles, could win dogfights against superior fighters.

Further improvements for the F-5s are already underway, including more advanced avionics, color displays, airborne data-links and new generation computers. Many of the Israeli systems can be seen here in Hall A, Booth 27.
