Elbit To Supply Guided Bombs For Italian AMX

The Italian Air Force has awarded Elbit Systems an $18 million, three-year contract to supply Lizard laser-guided bombs for deployment on its AMX light attack aircraft. Italy has already procured the IR-homing Ofer from Elbit, Lizard will augment this inventory with enhanced capabilities. It features high accuracy, all-digital electronics and compatibility with a broad range of airborne and ground laser designators. The weapon has a growth potential, with the introduction of GPS guidance capability for operations in adverse weather and low visibility. Alternatively, an imaging infrared seeker can also be deployed for attacking a variety of mobile targets. Lizard is deployed with a standard 500-pound Mk 82 warhead.
