CN-235 Crashes at Akinci, Killing Four Crew
A malfunctioning aileron is the most likely cause of the fatal crash of CN235-100M, sn153, that occurred at Akinci, Turkey on May 18, 2001, on its first flight after production, killing three Spanish and one Turkish crewmember, CASA officials said. Established quality control and test procedures were followed, but they were inadequate to prevent the accident, which is currently under investigation by Turkish airworthiness officials and EADS. The investigation should be complete in six to eight weeks. QC and test procedures will be upgraded as a result of the accident, according to the company.
