EADS CASA Presents C-295 MPA as Selected by
UAE
One of two C-295 tactical airlifters exhibited by EADS CASA this
year is the demonstrator aircraft for the evolved C-295MPA Persuader
dedicated maritime patrol variant. On March 22 this aircraft was
selected by the United Arab Emirates as the winner in its Shaheen
1 MPA competition. Competing with the C-295 were rival aircraft
from ATR and Bombardier.
The UAE plans to acquire four C-295MPAs, equipped with the fully
integrated tactical system mission fit developed by EADS CASA.
FITS is a flexible and modular system that has already been selected
by the Spanish air force for its P-3 Orion update program. The
C-295MPA builds on the track record of CASA's earlier CN-235MPA
patrol aircraft, which is well established in service with the
Irish Air Corps.
In addition to the four aircraft for the UAE, EADS CASA currently
holds orders for nine C-295s from the Spanish air force and two
from the Swiss air force. The C-295 is also actively involved
in several ongoing tactical airlifter competitions around the
world.
