  Patriot Slated For Radar Upgrades
Raytheon has won a $53 million contract to provide the U.S. Army with kits designed to enhance the capability of the Patriot missile's radar. Patriot is a surface-to-air missile able to intercept aircraft and to a lesser extent, tactical ballistic missile warheads. Raytheon said the improvements will effectively double the average power of the Patriot's radar, while enabling it to better discriminate between targets at long ranges. The upgrade work will be performed at Raytheon' facilities in Andover, Bedford, Sudbury and Tewksbury, Massachusetts.
