Raytheon Wins AMRAAM Contract
Raytheon has won a $177 million contract for continued production of the Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) for the U.S. government. The deal covers production and logistic support for 426 AMRAAMS through July 2003. The U.S. Air Force will receive 170 of the missiles and the U.S. Navy 63, while the remainder will be divided between Japan, Taiwan and Singapore. AMRAAM (AIM-120) is a radar-guided missile designed for beyond-visual-range (BVR) air-to-air combat. The type replaced the Hughes AIM-7 Sparrow in U.S. service.
