A BBJ for the Real Brass
No, that's not just a converted Boeing 737 with a cargo door parked here on the ramp-it is one of the first two 737-700IGWs delivered to the U.S. military as a C-40A. Beefed up with an increased gross weight, it features an FAA-certified cargo door installed on the production line-and thus available to civil operators, too. Orders stand at up to seven, with a potential for 30 or so for the U.S. Navy alone. Meanwhile the Air Force version, the C-40B, is essentially a BBJ right down to its winglets. Six to seven are on order. Boeing believes up to 60 C40A/Bs will be needed to replace C-9A/B and Cs.
