NATA Acquires Aviation Training Institute
The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) has acquired
the Aviation Training Institute (ATI), a provider of training
programs for line service personnel.
According to NATA president James Coyne, ATI's current programs
will be integrated into NATA's existing training initiative known
as Safety 1st. Under the Safety 1st program, NATA members are
trained and tested on their ground safety knowledge and practices.
The training program also will be expanded to include airport
security, as well as ground safety instruction.
While he did not disclose a new pricing structure, Coyne did say
that the cost of ATI programs would be reduced, making it possible
for "smaller FBOs to afford the highest level of training."
Coyne said the increased incidence of ground lossessometimes
referred to as hangar rashhas led to higher insurance premiums
for owners of business jets and aviation businesses and has even
resulted in fatalities among ground workers.
Given the high cost of aviation "fender-benders," the
insurance industry is embracing NATA's ground-safety focus. United
States Aircraft Insurance Group executive vice president Bill
Welbourn said, "USAIG will make training of this kind a key
ingredient in our underwriting of FBOs."
W. Brown and Associates executive vice president Vincent Zimmerer
noted, "we look favorably at FBOs who have lowered their
losses using comprehensive line-training programs."
